Alternatives to Cable End Caps
- Heat shrink tubes
You can use it by cutting a piece of tube and slipping it over the cable. Heat it until it shrinks. It will last as long the cable, and you can slide it off if necessary.
You can also choose from different colors. It is simple, quick, and inexpensive. It’s important to buy a small tube, as it can go to waste.
- Nail polish
It acts more like super glue. You can apply it to any end of the wire. It works the same way and gives similar results.
Clear nail polish gives you a neat look. We also like the option of using a nail varnish that is the same color as your bike.
When done correctly, soldering the cable’s end will give you a perfect finish that won’t allow for cable loosening. You can also remove the cable and reinstall it as you wish, without having to cut the end.
Welding a bicycle cable with Teflon or stainless steel is not an easy job. This job also requires flux, solder, and a soldering iron. Not everyone has these tools.
